It then evaluates the demands and functionalities of the new generation of naval engineering design software applications from the lens of BIM. The paper starts with a brief review of the premises and core technology of BIM, which include parametric modeling, integrated design workflow, information exchange and interoperability standards. An analogy is drawn between building facilities and naval engineering attributed to their commonalities in project delivery process and supply chain management. This paper explores the feasibility of implementing the principles and rationales of building information modeling (BIM) in luxury yacht design, manufacturing and construction, and eventually extending to its lifecycle management. ![]()
